On the ninth day of Christmas, my donor gave to me…opportunities.
So many opportunities are presented to me because of the journey and life I live. Whether it be speaking to politicians about organ donation, meeting the Queen, carrying the Olympic torch, or any other remarkable things I have been able to do; they are all possible because I have this special story.
One of the most incredible things for me, personally, is being picked to go to Malaga in June this year, to swim in the World Transplant Games.
I spoke yesterday about motivation, hope and determination to achieve goals, and this is one of those goals that I am determined to achieve.
In the next six months, I will be working as hard as I can to be the strongest I can, and to give myself the best chance of winning.
I am moving up age groups this year, I’m now in competition with 18 – 29 year olds and so I’m not expecting too much in the way of medals! But my aim for these games is Personal Bests. I want to achieve my Personal Best in every race I swim. I will know then that I couldn’t have done anymore, couldn’t have tried any harder.
I am so excited about 2017, what it could bring and the opportunities I can grasp and make the most of. I hope you all do the same – grab the opportunities presented to you and if something isn’t easy to achieve, fight for it!
I want to especially thank the physiotherapists and psychologists who have played a huge part in me being able to go for this goal of getting to Malaga. I hope that I can make the most of it!
To my donors and donor families, whoever you are – thank you for every opportunity I am given, as they are all down to your strength and selflessness.
You sign up, I’m signing off,
